New vineyards in the Barbaresco area!

Written by Alessandro Rivetto on 31 January 2018

We decided to invest in another prestigious wine of the Langhe: Barbaresco DOCG.

Our winery has acquired 6 hectares of vineyards in the municipality of Alba, within to the Montersino and Meruzzano crus.

For several years we had had the opportunity to sink his hands in the land of the vineyards of Montersino, where we vinified the grapes.

With the acquisition of five hectares in the cru, located within the fraction of San Rocco Seno d’Elvio, the only area of the «capital of the Langhe» where it is possible to vinify the Barbaresco, our winery is able to dedicate its experience and passion for wine into the creation of a new label.

A Barbaresco that celebrates this land. The 2017 vintage will be the first label of this cru. A limited production of 3500 bottles bearing the new Barbaresco Montersino DOCG label will inaugurate this vineyard.

The vineyards of Montersino, with their steep slopes, excellent exposure (south-southwest) and unique sandy composition of the soil have revealed over the years to be particularly suited to the production of a Barbaresco rich in polyphenolic compounds which besides contributing intense colors and aromas, lend good structure and longevity.

Starting Spring 2018, a plan to restructure the vineyards will gradually introduce new nebbiolo vines for the Barbaresco next to the existing dolcetto, barbera and moscato vines.

In this moment of great transition and movement in the Barolo area, we feel privileged to have the opportunity to invest in our territory, the Langhe, and in an area of undisputed potential, Barbaresco.

The smaller growing area of Barbaresco in comparison to Barolo along with its particular composition make these vineyards both rare and precious.

The vineyards of Montersino, situated on a steep hill, have always required special care and attention. Work done with precision, rewarded with wines full of surprise.

Here, and hopefully in the future within Meruzzano, we will start with a limited production obtained from the best grapes that will enrich our line with a new label of Barbaresco DOCG faithful to the peculiarities of this cru capable of giving wines with inimitable elegance and aromas.
